For those of you who may be new or unfamiliar with terminology of Medical Professionals' Degrees, I have tried to list them with a brief explanation.

  • M.S. is a Master's Degree in Science with a specialty such as Education, Psychology, etc., (usually 5 yrs of college.)

  • Ph.D. is a Doctor of Psychology or a Doctor of Education depending on their specialty.

  • -ology is the Study of: or Science of:

  • -ologist is a Doctor in the Study of: or Science of:

  • Dys- means Abnormal

  • -morph means Structure and Form

  • thus Dysmorphology means The Study of the Abnormal Structure and Form of:

In the US and Canada:

  • Professional Counselor
  • has a Master's Degree, M.S. in Psychology
  • Psychologist
  • has a Doctor of Psychology Degree, a Ph.D.
  • Neurologist
  • is a M.D. specializing in the Study of the areas of the Brain.
  • Neurosurgeon
  • is a M.D., a Surgeon specializing in the areas of Brain Surgery.
  • Neuropsychologist
  • is a M.D. a Psychologist specializing in the areas of the Brain and Psychology.
  • Geneticist
  • is a M.D., a Doctor specializing in the Study of Genes, the basic unit of Heredity.
  • Pediatrician
  • is a M.D., a Doctor specializing in the Diseases of Children.
  • Dysmorphologist
  • is a M.D., a Doctor specializing in the Study of Abnormalities of Specific Disabilities who has the ability to Visibly recognize specific Disabilities as in Fetal Alcohol Facial Abnormalities. (They can usually see what the public's untrained eye cannot see.)
  • Neurotologist
  • MD who specializes in treatment and surgery of the inner ear (a place where our kids seem to have problems)
  • Endocrinologist
  • MD who specializes in growth problems, premature puberty, delayed puberty and other endocrine related problems such as diabetes
  • Gastroenterologist
  • M.D. who specializes in the Study and Treatment of the Diseases of the Stomach and Intestines. Often our children have Esophageal Reflux and Ulcers etc.
